Dick Goodspeed Recognized for MCCC Service

Dick was presented with a Resolution commending his lifetime of service, including 24 years in the U.S. Navy and 25 years as a volunteer with Mid-Cities Care Corps. Dick was also presented with a Texas flag that had flown over the State Capitol in Austin.
WHEREAS, Dick Goodspeed of Hurst is stepping down from his volunteer duties with Mid-Cities Care Corps, drawing to a close a quarter century of dedicated community service; and
WHEREAS, Mid-Cities Care Corps is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the independence of senior citizens in 11 communities in Northeast Tarrant County; volunteers in its network provide seniors with transportation to and from appointments, help out with light home maintenance, and offer other types of support; and
WHEREAS, Dick Goodspeed joined Mid-Cities as a volunteer in 1989; a professional writer and editor with more than four decades of experience, he began by creating the organization’s newsletter, and he went on to become one of the group’s most reliable and loyal drivers, logging more than 100,000 miles over 25 years; he and his (late) wife, Betty, were named Volunteers of the Year in 2006, and that same year, they played a leading role in helping to win the Pat Nemo Riddle Organization of the Year Award for Mid-Cities; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Goodspeed earned his bachelor’s degree in naval engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and his master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Princeton University; after retiring from the U.S. Navy, he worked as a proposal editor for Bell Helicopter for many years; and
WHEREAS, Community volunteers contribute greatly to the welfare and security of the citizens of the Lone Star State, and Dick Goodspeed may indeed reflect with pride on his long and dedicated service to the seniors of Tarrant County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that Dick Goodspeed be commended on his 25 years of service with Mid-Cities Care Corps and that he be extended sincere best wishes for continued happiness.
