Assistant Director joins Mid-Cities Care Corps team

Mid-Cities Care Corps is pleased to welcome Bob Thornton to our team to fill the position of assistant director.  Bob’s responsibilities will include engaging and retaining MCCC volunteers, churches, civic groups, supporters and friends in the mission of MCCC. He will also serve as the focal point for public relations and communications to promote timely awareness of MCCC activities in the communities we serve.

Bob and his family have made Northeast Tarrant County their home for more than 30 years. He has a degree in communications from Stephen F. Austin State University and has served as editor of newspapers in Grapevine, Lewisville and Waxahachie as well as associate editor of a furniture trade magazine in Dallas. He has also worked in administrative capacities in both the private and non-profit sectors.

Bob has been involved in many civic organizations and is a past president of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, Grapevine Rotary Club and Grapevine Chapter of American Business Clubs (AMBUCS).

A native of California, Bob’s family relocated to Texas while he was in high school. He considers himself a fully-assimilated Texan, having closed the deal 39 years ago when he married his college sweetheart, Janis, a native Texan born in Abilene. TheThorntons are members of First Baptist Church in Grapevine, where they are facilitators of GriefShare, a support group ministering to people grieving the death of a loved one.

Bob has developed a heart for reaching out to our senior community through his service with civic organizations and his church.  Bob shared “when I would sign up for a holiday delivery or home fix-it project, it was clear to me that the gratitude was more for the time I was sharing than for the item or service I was bringing. When I learned more about the MCCC mission “to preserve the independence of our senior neighbors” through transportation aid and Helping Hands, I felt drawn to this position and this opportunity to serve.”

Mid-Cities Care Corps is excited to have Bob’s spirit and experience on our team!
